A scheduled group visiting the Panhandle Butterfly House

Our Docents will greet you, guide you through the exhibits, and provide personalized information to help you gain a better understanding of butterflies and gardening.  To further enhance your visit, they have the training and knowledge to point out specific butterflies and the variety of plants in the vivarium.  Ask them for ideas to create your own butterfly garden. They are available Thursday through Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM when the Butterfly House is open to the public.

Have a Group You’d Like to Bring? Book a tour for “Kiderpillar School”, our award winning educational program.  The tour visit consists of a basic lesson on butterfly conservation, the life cycle and habits of the butterfly.  This is followed by a journey through the vivarium, viewing live Florida butterflies, nectar and host plants and the nursery featuring metamorphosis.  Larger tours may have rotations on beneficial insects and the ecology of the Panhandle’s estuary.  “Kiderpillar School” lessons incorporate Florida Science and Literacy Standards.  “Kiderpillar School and Group Tours are led by volunteers. Please schedule your tour at least 10 days in advance for a Monday-Wednesday morning to be sure of availability!

Because we are located in the beautiful Navarre Park, you may want to include time in your visit for a picnic or fun on the playground or in the splash pad fountains (closed on Mondays for cleaning).  Bring plenty of water to drink and your swimsuit and towel!

Admission is free but donations are encouraged and appreciated.  Only through our visitors generosity are we able to offer the community our educational programs and an encounter with one of nature’s most beautiful creatures.

Letters from visitors:

Dear Mary,

Thank you so much for the lesson and tour at the Butterfly House. From the six year old to the thirteen year old all learned much and enjoyed touring the House. How neat it was to see the different kinds of butterflies and to see them in different stages of development. Each child and adult told me an interesting fact on the way home.  And we will be using the printed material during our early morning tutoring sessions. What a nice facility you have and what a nice demeanor you use while working with the children! Thank you again so much.

Thank you Butterfly House for the beautiful and fun experience you gave my 2 year old daughter today. She has always loved butterflies but never had a day like today. You and those beautiful butterflies put an ear to ear smile on her face from beginning to end. Not to mention the loads of information we were able to learn from your wonderful volunteers. I hope you continue doing the work you’re doing there at the butterfly house as I look forward to bringing my daughter there in many years to come.

Again thank you!! Susan Evatt
