History of Keep Santa Rosa Beautiful (KSRB)

  • Founded in 1984 as Milton Clean & Green, the organization rebranded multiple times—becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1995, and later the Santa Rosa Clean Community System, Inc.
     
  • Over the decades, KSRB has expanded its mission from litter cleanup to broader conservation and community beautification efforts across Santa Rosa County.

  • The Butterfly House was brought under the KSRB organizational umbrella around 2018–2019 as part of their nature and education outreach extension, operating as a KSRB-managed program .
     
  • In July 2021, KSRB's executive board removed the Butterfly House’s independent volunteer committee and redirected leadership to align more closely with KSRB’s mission objectives

  • Today, the Panhandle Butterfly House & Nature Center functions as a key program of KSRB, staffed by volunteers and funded through donations.
     
  • It complements KSRB’s goals by offering educational events (like the “Pollination Celebration”), conservation programming, school tours, and habitat restoration projects
