The mission of the Panhandle Butterfly House program is to increase the public's awareness of butterflies and their important role in the environment
Founded in 1997, Keep Santa Rosa Beautiful's Panhandle Butterfly House has been a leading environmental organization program for over two decades. We have a proven track record of successful campaigns and initiatives that have helped to increase the public's awareness of butterflies and the important role they have in the environment..
Our team is made up of passionate and dedicated individuals who are committed to protecting the environment. We have experts in the fields of sustainability, ecology, conservation, horticulture and education who work tirelessly to further our mission.
Jack and Fonda launched the Butterfly House in a tent in their backyard in Navarre Florida. With community and local government support, the Butterfly House found a home in Navarre Park, became known as the Navarre Butterfly house where it operated for 21 years.
Keep Santa Rosa Beautiful was established in 1984 and adopted the Butterfly House and accepted the role of parent organization to the project. The panhandle Butterfly house was registered as a business name for Keep Santa Rosa Beautiful.
The historic T. W. Jones House in Milton Florida was restored by the Blackwater River Foundation, Inc. The foundation funded and completed the restoration with financial assistance from the State of Florida Historic Preservation Grants program and contributions from individuals and other nonprofit environmental organizations.
The foundation has placed the majority of the land surrounding the Jones House in a permanent conservation easement. The property was sold to Keep Santa Rosa Beautiful as a new home for the organization.
Keep Santa Rosa Beautiful purchased the The T.W. Jones House Education Center and built the new Panhandle Butterfly House with assistance from an Impact 100 grant. The education center, vivarium, demonstration gardens, and adjacent hiking trails on the conservation land serve as the centerpieces of the Keep Santa Rosa Beautiful site where history, education, and conservation meet to implement the Keep America Beautiful inspired programs CleanUp Santa Rosa and GreenUp Santa Rosa.
